I Dare You…

I am teaching a series about living a spiritual adventure, called The Great Chase.  From Mark Batterson’s book Wild Goose Chase there are at least 6 “cages” that keep us from this adventure.  This week I dealt with routine. Sunday I invited people to pray a certain prayer. I don’t have it word for word but I’ll attempt to get the idea across.

God save me from my sins. But also save me from my routine. Disrupt my rountine when I need it most.  Invade me with adventure.

It’s easy to pray this but much more difficult to live it.  Usually when God calls us to adventure the first response is – no, why me, I can’t – or some version of that.  But look at all the personalities in the Bible who were called and notice their response. God doesn’t need you to be good enough. He only needs you to be obedient.

  1. OK..that statement confuses me…..if I can never be fully obedient (because surely I can not )than how can I ever be good enough?…Isn’t that why Christ died for us? Because we will never be obedient enough? And .. isn’t it a gift… just to know that you you have sinned??… to have a Godly conscience …..
for this I am grateful. Because there are many who do not… and for this gift, I am blessed. Good enough I will never be, but Thankfully I will always be forgiven. The ”cages” around us are built because of our disappointment in man, especially when they are supposed to be connected with God.

  2. I’m not sure which statement confuses you. Please clarify and I’ll attempt to address it.

The “cages” I’m referring to are written about in Mark Batterson’s book. They are things like: guilt, fear, routine, responsibility etc. Things we use to avoid God’s calling.

Disappointment is unavoidable. All people are sinful and will let you down, even people “connected” to God.

  3. The statement that confuses me is that “He only needs you to be obedient” Doesn’t everyone who loves God want to be obedient towards him? I think so, unfortunately, our flesh takes over sometimes, no matter how hard we try.
